Safran is an international technology group that comprises a number of companies across the globe. As a large multinational company with 70,000+ employees in over 60 countries and a wide range of products spanning aerospace, defense, and security, Safran has a complex organization to run. Frequent changes such as mergers and acquisitions and reorganizations confirm the need for an easy way to reduce the risk related to managing DMA processes across the organization.
This need for simplicity is what drove Safran to look for a modern archiving solution. Previously, an Excel file was used to manage records and archives. It consisted of a global table with 154 columns for over 500 document types. Each document type had fourteen attributes. There were a number of challenges with this approach. Supporting Group level rules was difficult, and it was impossible to support Company level rules. There were also access rights control issues and rule modification issues. The Excel file simply wasn’t working.
